Thanh Ha Pottery Village Hoi An is different from other pottery villages across the country in that all production processes are completely handmade.
Thanh Ha villagers, originally from the north, moved to Quang Nam from the 15th century and settled until today. Even this pottery craft also comes from Thanh Hoa province, not from Quang Nam. Thanh Ha pottery village is a traditional craft village that was formed in the 16th century. Previously, the pottery village was formed in Thanh Chiem village and then moved to Thanh Ha ward, Hoi An city. Today, there is a shrine to worship the Ancestors here. Every year on January 10, spring sacrifices will be held, worshiping ancestors, praying for a year of favorable rain and wind.
The 17th and 18th centuries were the heyday of Thanh Ha pottery. Along with the prosperous development of the commercial port of Hoi An, Thanh Ha pottery is not only used as a product for the king, but also bought in large quantities by Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish merchants.
