Tu Duc tomb (also known as Khiem Lang) is one of the 7 appealing mausoleums on the outskirts of Hue imperial city. It is constructed in a beautiful valley of Duong Xuan Thuong village (Thuong Ba hamlet, Thuy Xuan commune, Hue city). Located in an immense pine valley about 8km from Hue city, Tu Duc tomb is one of the most beautiful royal architectures of Nguyen dynasty.

Tu Duc personal name Nguyen Phuc Hong Nham, when he ascended the throne he changed to Nguyen Phuc Thi, born in 1829 and died in 1883 was the fourth emperor of the Nguyen dynasty of Vietnam. He reigned for 36 years from 1847-1883 and is the longest reigning Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty.

Tu Duc was a very intelligent and talented person and was an expertise in philosophy, oriental history, and literature. He was one of the most knowledgeable people in Confucianism at that time.
Tu Duc’s life on the throne was not very smooth, he encountered a time of war and invasion, the internal court was in turmoil, and the brothers were discord and unification. He built a second mausoleum as a place for him to rest and relieve sorrow.

Covering an area of 12 hectares, the Tu Duc tomb consists of nearly 50 architectures constructed in groups at different heights. The previous sentence is Giang Khiem mountain, the posterior occipital is Duong Xuan mountain (well-covered in the front and the back). Luu Khiem lake serves as Minh Duong (a patch of ground or a pond in front of a house, receiving much natural sunlight).
Crossing Vu Khiem gate, Luu Khiem lake appears. Xung Khiem and Du Khiem houses where the Emperor used to admire a flower, compose a poem, and read books.
Walking on stone stairs leading to Khiem Cung gate, visitors reach Hoa Khiem palace which used to be the working place of Emperor Tu Duc. Today, Khiem Cung palace is used to worship the Emperor and Empress. Hoa Khiem palace which is the Emperor’s resting place is constructed behind Luong Khiem palace. Later, it is the altar devoted to Madam Tu Du, the mother of Emperor Tu Duc. On the right side of Luong, Khiem palace is On Khiem house where royal utensils are stored. On the left side of Luong Khiem palace is Minh Khiem – the oldest theater conserved today.

Right behind two majestic rows of mandarin stands the stele pavilion. The 4.935-line poem written about the life, career, and mistakes of Emperor Tu Duc was carved in the memorial stele. On the hill located on the other side of Tieu Khiem Tri crescent lake is the brick citadel called Buu Thanh. In the middle of Buu Thanh stands a small stone house where Emperor Tu Duc rests in peace.
